GOLDEN MILK TURMERIC TEA RECIPE - Sip & Snack Saturday

Turmeric root is one of the most revered roots and comes from the Curcuma longa plant. Turmeric has a rich history in Indian and Ayurvedic medicine with very strong anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and anti-oxidant properties and is one of the healthiest ways to add a spicy flavor and gorgeous color to any recipe.

Turmeric has a slight peppery, warm and bitter flavor and a mild fragrance slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger, and while it is best known as one of the ingredients used to make curry.

This recipe is so diverse, it helps promote an excellent nights sleep, helps cleanse the blood, helps to heal digestive issues, is anti-inflammatory and helps protect against cancer.

Health Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric Paste

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water

  • ½ cup organic ground turmeric root (can be find in fresh market if I'm not wrong)

  • ⅓ cup coconut oil

  • 1½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon organic ground ginger root (anti inflammatory)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (anti inflammatory)

Instructions:

  1. Place water and turmeric in a small saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Stir constantly until you have a thick paste, approximately 7 to 8 minutes

  3. Remove from heat and whisk in virgin coconut oil and black pepper.

  4. Cool and put into a glass jar.

  5. Store in the fridge.

  6. Lasts up to 2 weeks.

Turmeric “Golden Milk” Tea

This golden milk tea is a wonderful treat to drink anytime, but especially in the evening. It is high in good fats so it helps to calm the brain, balance the hormones and naturally help promote calm and a good nights sleep. It tastes similar to a warm chai tea, it is so delicious!

Serve 1-2 cups.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of coconut milk. (You can also use almond milk)

  • 1 tsp (and you can work up to 1 TBL) of coconut oil. This adds more good saturated fats and anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties

  • 1.5 tsp turmeric paste

  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder

  • 1 tsp nutmeg powder

  • 1 tsp of maple syrup or honey to taste

  • a sprinkle of black pepper (optional) - this enhances the body's ability to absorb turmeric by one thousand times, however, if you have ulcerative colitis, crohns or other sensitivities, please omit.

  • Note: You can add filtered water to your liking and consistency.

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients thoroughly in a blender or food processor, until smooth

  2. Pour into saucepan and heat over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes

  3. Pour into your mug or cup and enjoy all the delicious anti-inflammatory health benefits.
